View Full Version : Need good full range sensative speaker recomendation for 30 watttube amp
I have _substantially modified_ Klipsch speakers I like a lot. The
only difference between the "klassic" Klipschhorn, the La Scala, and
the Belle Klipsch are the bass extension available, and the fact that
the K-horn, as it is known, relies on corner placement where the walls
become the outer horn members. The K-horn goes the lowest, roughly 30
Hz.
Whiole the bass extension, efficiency and naturalness of the lower
register are unexcelled, Klipsch speakers are usually derided for poor
midrange and treble performance. Replacing the Avedon T-35 treble
driver and the midrange horn (at least) result in much better
performance which few who will actually listen to it will fault.
There are other horn and hybrid possibilities of course. The high
dollar solution is the Edgarhorn. Large cone speakers in suitable cabs
such as the legendary Altec 604 Duplex and the Tannoy Dual Concentrics
also have their fans.

Are you looking for a system that is already made or a speaker you can
build?
When you say "full range", you mean a single driven element that covers the
whole range, right?

already made
it can have mutiple drivers - don't want to have to get a sub
There are two firms which build Modified Klipschhorns such as I
describe:
http://www.alkeng.com/klipsch.html
http://home.comcast.net/~wooferboy/The_Audio_Engineering_League.html
Whith these, you already have the subs!
I can also recommend Dr. Bruce Edgar of Edgarhorn fame although his
big systems are somewhat expensive.
