Mic for iTalk

I am going to buy an iTalk for my iPod, and I know that the built in
mic is absolutely crap. I want to record conversations on site, at
locations such as a park, or a bar. I am going to carry the iPod either
around my neck or in my shirt pocket and this would cause extra noise
that would probably make the recordings horribly difficult to listen
to. I was thinking that a handheld mic might get in the way, and a
lapel mic would be best suited, but I know nothing about them. How much
would a decent lapel mic cost? I want to pick up conversations at
distances of up to max 20 feet.
