I'll include music anyway...playing and singing blues, rock and r&b, mostly
blues
Favorites are Peter Green, Sleepy John Estes, Otis Rush, Willie Dixon, Mike
Bloomfield.
Other than that, travel.

So Maggie V., tell us about your art collecting.

Hi Art!

.......hmmmm....... :-) ......!!!

Assuming you were serious, it is not something really big time. I have
fairly limited formal training on the subject, a class in art appreciation
as a college elective and another advanced class to help me get through a
boring MBA program. I probably have something like 189 pieces which have
resulted from over 20 years of buying and selling. The hobby broke even
about 10 years ago, something this audio hobby will never do. :-)

My collection ranges from a picture of Fidel and Che to flashy mexican
bronze warriors to tikis from pacific islands to african masks to a native
american totem to sculptures and paintings from the Americas and Europe to a
neon self-portrait of an Irish artist residing here in Texas. Almost
everything goes as long as it is original and I like it, only Asian art
escapes me so far. I'd be more than happy to e-mail you pictures of some
real treasures (paintings) I acquired this past winter while on assignment
overseas if you're genuinely interested. Just let me know.

So what instruments do you play?

Cheers,

Margaret

I'm not really a card-carrying member of the "leisure class". Most of my
hobbies seem to be motivated by a very high need for novelty in my life, or
a craving to satisfy the "I can do that" imitative urge, or "for the
experience". I don't have a lot of "habitual" hobbies. I jog, but I doubt
that could be called a hobby. The closest thing to a hobby that I have is a
Fatar keyboard, hooked up to a computer, that I'm using to learn piano, and
satisfy an urge to noodle on one.

I hiked across the Grand Canyon -- for the novelty. Did a little of the
Appalachian Trail. I took four hours of flying lessons -- that was enough. I
do a little quantum philosophy, some DSP theorizing, and some basement
inventing.

I semifinaled in the Chesterfield Screenwriting Contest in Y2K, and I had a
script optioned by a famous producer. But as I would like to participate
vocationally in this field, it does not qualify as a hobby.

Reading Arthur Miller's autobiography, Time Bends.

- Hand-ball
- Biking (road)
- Linux
- DIY speakers
- 2-3 times a year, drinking a lot with pals, playing guitar

Yeah, let's hear it for road cycling!
Ham radio, although not too seriously. Just to B.S. with my buddies
sometimes.
Cooking. (Then cycling to keep the weight off.)
Building cars. Hot rods and antique ones.
Reading, mostly science.

DIY audio, designing and building electronic contraptions.
Making music, either with friends or in my "studio".
Collecting and fixing old tube radios.
My Citroens, of course!
Feeding the cats.
Entertaining and satisfying my wife.
Moderating a Dutch electronics forum.
An amateur car mechanic.
Reading, Lot'S ;-)

And RAO, of course.

A common misconception among many poorly informed people is

Good one. :-)

Stynchie, are you planning ahead for when you commit your killing spree? You
probably want to pick a state where the prisons are loaded up with your fellow

Oh, of course. How could I have asked such a question?

Be a good Terrierdork and publish the rest of your Rules For A Stupid
Existence. We can all study up and then we'll be fully prepared to have
meaningless arguments with you about inane subjects that you, and only you
because of your pervasive stupidity, cannot fathom.

George talks a lot but this fact reamains, his failure to address his

You mean, how does it feel to admitting to pimping one's wife,
or how does it feel to admitting one collects kidie porn, or how
does it feel to lie about receiving kiddie porn emails, or how
does it feel to sneak out of your son's funeral to post more
vile material on RAO, or do you mean how does it feel to falsely
accuse a multitude of others of sending one kiddie porn?
Please be more specific.

You can practically see Boy George quivering in his dainty little boots as
he typed the above. This is the closest that Georgy girl can get interacting
with a real live woman, and he still manages to fall apart doing so.

Ahh, poor 'lil Georgie, it sure must suck - literally - to be you.

Boy George fantasies the above scenario (with himself starring in it) each night
before drifting off to blissful sleep.

Our meeker brethren, God bless them, may well inherit
the Earth, but we, on the other hand, will no longer allow
ourselves to be bullied or trampled or marginalized by
the shrill, godless secularists. We're more than ready to

And guess what, Tommy boy, we're slowly reclaiming this

foisted on it by the Sodom-and-Gomorrah degenerates.

It wasn't...and it wasn't. If you bother to go back to the beginning

That's amazing. The two bands I regret never having seen perform live

Yep, I knew that. It's disappointing that you would do it.

I'm still surprised that people would draw an ethical line over me
posting something that made Lionel sound reasonable simply because it
was a private post. Shows how out of whack things are here.

So, here's an apology - I'm sorry Lionel. I shouldn't have disrupted

I'll have to say that I DIDN'T see Hendrix open for the Monkees a
couple of years later. My best friend went though. I'm pretty sure it
changed his life about as much as seeing the Beatles changed *mine*.

That's not to say that it was an extraordinary musical experience in
my case. It wasn't. It was more of a cultural one.

Chronological ordering of posts would be a disaster in organization.
Subthtread structuring pushes it further and further from the original
post. Anyone replying to his first or replies to replies are inserted
between. This is structuring that Outlook, Google, Free Agent all use
as default.

George could have avoided this by posting a reply to his post rather
than a reply to the OP.

This is obvious yet it doesn't surprise you would choose to argue in
opposition and in favor of chronological ordering which destroys any
subthreading. I wonder if this is why you often appear confused?

It's not when you regularly read a newsgroup. And since I CAN choose
to use a tree structure when I need to, it's not a big deal.

*My* defaultin Agent is chronolgical. I only choose a tree structure
when going back weeks to try to find a specific post.

>George could have avoided this by posting a reply to his post rather

Since his were the second and third replies originally, and within
minutes of each other, I doubt he paid it much mind. Plus, it wouldn't
have made any sense to make that statement vis a vis the original
post.

> This is obvious yet it doesn't surprise you would choose to argue in

Well, since I don't use Google to read posts, and RARELY use subthread
ordering, it's irrelevant.

BTW, it was YOU who was confused in this case. So, it looks like you

Not as I trace the thread. He did post his hobbies in
response to "her" initial question, but the follow-up
posting is attached to Margaret's original and not to his
initial response. That tells me that George and Margaret may
be the same person and that he got a bit mixed up during the
series. Of course, calling either of them a "person" is
heaping on the praise, since both are jerks.

There are things one knows one is confused about,
and there are things one doesn't know one is confused about,
but one should not be so confused as to not know the difference between the
two.

Big difference, Dave. My research was based on publicly available
information, namely, your memorable exchange with trotsky in
which I distinctly remembered the "live jazz" mention. What made
that exchange memorable was when trotsky temporarily stopped

You seem confused. I don't give a rat's ass about what 'research" you
might have done, regardless of how much "incomplete infromation" it
may have been based on.

It's disappointing that you would try to bait me into revealing your

It had to do with the the statement, "Perhaps if you put on your
thinking cap and gave it a whirl..."this seemed to me to be an attempt
to get me to "give the game away", and, as it turned out, it WAS, by
your own admission.

Are you now saying that, with the context of the past couple of days,
this statement wasn't meant as a baited hook for me?

Probably.

If you'd like, I'll be glad to pass along what you disclosed to me
privately. Just give me the word, and I'll be happy to quote you.

Is this one of those relative truths you proclaim?

There is no *My* default... only *A* default and chronological isn't
it.

Correct... so why make it a reply to the original... it was an
addendum to his post.

Top posters surely won't care if idiots like you can't find their
posts...

Because he might have simply repeated his original action before his
original reply had shown up on the group, perhaps? Perhaps, he made
the addenum "on the spot", as it were?

Tht would make too much sense for you to understand though.

Aaaah, the elitist arrogantly declare what is more or less in life.
Well a fine family gathering is a joy your life apparently lacks or you

The default is the state it comes up in upon install,
no matter how hard you stamp your feet and say it isn't so.

And you have gall to claim this statement makes too much sense?

Oh... I see... the latest debating trade.... say something truly
absurd and declare it over their heads.
If you think such tactics can save a little face... it just shows how
little face you have to save.

All the *s in the heavens can't make it so.
... and again you have failed to make any substantial support of your
argument to validate your declarations. So another one bites the dust
in just the same way as so many have bitten the dust before it.

No, default is the state it comes up in upon loading. Defaults are
choosable.

You lose.

Again.

Frankly, I have no idea what the default was at the time that I

Wanna bet?

From M-W.com

default : a selection automatically used by a computer program in the
absence of a choice made by the user

Now one would think Dave, you could at least crack a dictionary before
making another uninformed declaration of victory..... again.

I have Free Agent... don't like it. OE sucks. Google used to be
delayed but is now real time and works pretty well. If you haven't
used it lately you might try it. You've chosen to buy Agent and thats
fine, I've chosen not too spend for usenet :).

it still isn't, but you would just think it is.

Yeah, I know you're as egocentric as the next guy around here, but if you
think my response to Tom (who probably suspected I was Haugen or
trotsky) was somehow written merely to bait you, then you've crossed
over into the delusional strata occupied by rao's two most prolific posters.

It may be time for an overdue reality check.

So, when I load the program and don't change the state it's in myself,
the computer has chosen the state that it's in, and that's MY default.

No, I don't. For me, the default is the state of the program when I

it there when I close the program down, *it* becomes the defult, until

I use Google if I need to do reserch. Otherwise, I prefer to use

Alex: Thank you Stephen, and the answer is:

"All Your Base" was interesting in that it demonstrated the power of the

Allow me to enlighten you. Styncho is terrified of "homos". He superimposes
his crack-brained religion over every social issue. He's stuck on the
Krooborg in a perverted way. He's an audio commie even though if he had a
pickup truck, he'd have a gun rack in it.

He grasps at tattered shreds of ideology because he can't face how
marginalized he is. He hates his job, but at bottom he realizes that a
misanthropic misfit like himself is lucky to have a steady paycheck. He
probably stays up nights worrying about his job being exported, and he tells
himself that white people will never shaft another white person just to save
a few bucks.

He hates arts and artistic people because, frankly, he doesn't get any of
it. He resents that he can't afford the nicest things. He feels that he has
a birthright to be treated royally. He probably fantasizes about lynching
some random nonwhite person like white men did in the good old days.

I'm sure there's more........

What specific behavior?

It's beginning to sound to me like you're a moral relativist.
What are your views on abortion and homosexuality?
If you're a Christian, how do you square those views with what is
written in the Bible?

As a Christian, would you support or oppose the following:

Noting that in his Good Friday homily soon-to-be pope
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger condemned the "filth there is
in the church," Wheeler believes the pontiff "will not
tolerate [homosexuality's] presence in his church."

You are wrong, Surf. Totally wrong.
It's like to say that Taliban aren't Muslims or that Middius
isn't an homosexual.
As long as behaviours are driven by fear, aversion and
frustration even the most peaceful philosophy give birth to
monsters like them.

The arabic world is so full of frustration that you can kill

Geosynch belongs to the Christian inquisition resurgence his
discourse is also driven by hate, fear and frustration. Even

The Bible has many different interpretations - especially
the Old Testament. My beliefs are personal and I'm not about

Religion is a personal way.
GeoStink (like Taliban) would like to built a social model
from their beliefs. They are so vainglorious and so lazy
that they cannot take the responsability of their petty
behaviour.
It's always easier to point out other's sins than to take
care of yours. This is why for GeoStink like for the
Talibans, women, homosexuals... are the low moral reference
standard they use to gauge their own holiness.

It is very sad to note that when they find a leader holy
warriors like GeoStink are ready to the worst crimes in the
name of the respect of the life. History is full of their
wrongdoings.

Forget this *******, Surf compare to him your worst RAO
enemy is surely an angel.

This was founded a Christian nation, and I'm not the only one

against us by the shrill, godless secularists.

Your first response was soooooo lame, you decided to try again

alas, the best you can do is some grotesque vulgarities, which is

Geosynch misses the fundamentals:

>getting fed up with the hostility bordering on persecution directed

This nation was founded by people who were Christians, but it was not
founded as a Christian nation, rather it was founded on the belief that
people should be free to be godless if they chose and the laws we
crafted to allow them that freedom.

As an atheist who believes in letting everybody seek heaven or not, so
long as they leave their fellow humans alone, I can say that I'm just
as afraid of rabid Christians as I am of rabid Muslims, or rabid
atheists.
