The open air jobs just aren't cutting it. Whenever I'm
listening to music or watching the tube it seems to be
an open invitation for everyone in the house to gather
round and have a loud conversation and I'm tired of
asking them to quiet down or leave.
I know the noise canceling 'phones like the Bose would
work, but I don't want to spend that much money.
I Googled and found zilch.
Any suggestions?

What are you using now? How much do want to spend? Koss makes some
closed headphones, such as
http://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/04ProductDetailCall?ReadForm&Home+Stereophones^PRO4AAT
but I don't think they sound as good as my Sennheisers. Some of
Sennheiser's Studio headphones are closed:

Good luck!

I can heartily recommend Sennheiser Pro-280. That's what I use at
work, and they provide an amazing amount of isolation, and, for me at
least, are very comfortable; I can wear them several hours at a crack.

Earphones AKA in-ear-monitors. Example: Shure E3C.

I'm assuming the HD-280, and not the HMD-280.
I've got the HD-600, and wouldn't trade them for anything (except
the HD-650.) I don't need the isolation, and find them extremely
comfortable.

Thanks for the replies.
That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Yes, sorry about that, I was posting off the top of my head; I just checked,
and the actual label on the phones is 'HD 280 pro'.
