View Full Version : the world's most expensive system?

What would it be made of?

Let's assume it is stereo, and includes facilities for both CD and vinyl
reproduction.

Leave quality out of it.

I guess that means a Wavac or two for amplification.

What else? The world's most expensive speakers, components, component
stands, and room tweaks.

The only condition is that everything chosen must have been written about,
though not necessarily endorsed, by Stereophile.

I think Kharma makes a loudspeaker system for something like $1 million or
was it 1 million euros... I doubt the Wavac can reasonably drive it but I'm
sure the Krell Master Reference could at a paltry $120K per pair. Sirius
with an Insider Wood would probably qualify as the vinyl rig ~ $100K. For
the rest I bet something from FM Acoustics, Goldmund, Boulder or Burmester
will fit the bill. Maybe MIT cables. Of course a room designed and properly
outfitted with for the purpose could set you back several $100K. OTOH, if it
is found that the works of the Old Masters hanging on the wall have an
immense positive impact on floating the images freely out of a pitch black
cavernous background, it is possible to spend tens of millions of dollars
more to maximize the desired effect. BTW, the prices are only my best
recollections.

Incidentally, of the above, I only desire the Sirius.

Cheers,

Margaret

A friend just pointed out that the Kharma Grand Enigma is an active system,
so no amplification is needed. Hopefully you still have time to cancel your
order. :-)

Cheers,
