I have a 2004 Jaguar X-Type SE with the bog standard audio system with
single CD player but with sat nav and voice recognition so the display
and controls are partly graphical.

I saw no point in opting for the better sound system as it did not
even play MP3s!

I would like to replace the existing CD player with a compatible one
that can play
MP3s or even an MP3 player. Ogg would be nice but not vital.

I would like to pay for installation as I would be wary of messing up.
I would also want to upgrade the speaker system to something more
reasonable.

What options do I have?

Really any options at all I am interested in.

PS I am in the UK.

No cd player plays .ogg files .. but mp3's and .wma yes .. It would be
best to speak with an installer for a bit and ask him what options you
have as far as your navi and such , you may REALLY just want to add to
your system with some sort of modulator or an external cd changer with
mp3 playing capabilities and the controller mounted in reach . I have
never seen or touched a 2004 Jaguar syatem ( or leather for that matter
) so I can not recommend anything specific ..
Maybe if you could take a few photos of your dash / stereo / nav
Icould inquire further on your behalf . PM me if you do , I'll give u
email where to send

Has a couple of pics of the dash.

I don't want to add a seperate system. I know older cars like the S-Type
can have compatible CD changers that plug in to the proprietry system but I
can find nothing doing a web search for X-Type.

By "Installer" who do you mean? A car audio installer? Which ones can
do Jag compatible systems?
