I have a MTX T81044a which is a 10' dual 4 ohm sub. Anyways I've had it for
a couple of months now. I recently removed it, to change boxes, and noticed
that one of the tinsel leads has come unsoldered from the binding post.
Apparently my buddy who 'does these all the time' hooked it up wrong.. he
reversed the leads to the second coil. So I've been running one one coil for
pretty much the whole time. Is there permanet damage from only using one
coil? It pounds. But I was expecting more when run with a 421d. Geez I could
kick him.

Good thing you saved all that money by having a buddy do it.

No, running just one coil is not harmful.

grab a soldering iron and re-solder it to the post. I had a set of poineer
subs that one of the leads did the exact same thing. worst case scenario is
it doesnt work and you just leave it disconnected and use the single vc like
you have been.

I did just that this morning. Looks a little short.. But so far so good. It
seems a bit louder. I'll remove it tommorow and see if it held.. Thanks for
