Hard to believe, true, but what does this have to do with me? Were you
referring to somebody else?

I doubt that it is. Forsell went through many many prototypes before
coming out with the actual production models. This looks like a typical
first run model. As to which units were built in what order on the
first release of this table one could look to the number on the actual
turntable. I'm not sure this really assures one that it was built in
that order. Im quite certain that doesn't matter. While the original
model is an excellent table, substantial improvements were implimented
in later versions. The only value in getting the first would be
collectability. In that case I'd be more interested in those
prototypes.

I'll be curious as to the outcome of this auction but I suspect this
collector is gonna take a loss on this.
I can't understand why anyone would never use it, even as a collectors
piece.

Referring to your discussion of someone selling a home for an amp... and
that audio gear cannot constitute an investment though some may try.

That depends on the price provide it is working as it should be.

I can't either. There are many claims on this auction that I found
suspect. For one thing the list price is completely wrong. This table
retailed from about 13,000 dollars when it first came out to about
17,000 when the last crop was produced.

Could the discrepancy be MSRP vs actual retail? I've seen some ridicuosly
inflated MSRPs trying to create illusions of deep discounts.
Buyer beware I guess. I'm a little disappointed in Audiogon... they could
hold their sellers a little more accountable for their content. They seem
no better than e-bay in this regard. Very expensive audio equipment
auctions seems prone to the same pitfalls that have beset the art industry.

No. The prices were commonly listed by numerous vendors. In fact this
table could be had foe even less in Europe being an import from Sweden.
I have a hunch this price was meant to include the optional flywheel
which put the price of this unit and the flywheel at about that level.
Ironically there is no flywheel included in the ad and if there were it
would be useless as it was incompatable with the first two versions of
this table.

I guess. I would hope that anyone considering buying this table would
know enough about it not to be fooled by these things. I would be more
worried about the condition of the table. If the seller is willing to
misrepresent so many other things about it.....

Audiogon is a want ads web page. You have to do the police work
yourself. Really, who would even know what to look for in an ad like
this? Consider the wide variety of equipment that is sold on Audiogon.
Who is going to police it at a level that would call into question the
claims of this ad? I mean when all is said and done it could be serial
number 001 and it could be unused and it could be everything else the
seller claims it to be. I know it didn't list for 29,000 bucks though.

Yeah. Buying on line is tricky with high priced items.

I thought my point about Rochy's house was obvious. He didn't have two or
three houses. He had only one, and he's not wealthy. So it's not "selling
a house" per se that's absurd.

If that's really what the guy selling the TT has in mind......

Not as absurd, but absurd enough in its own right
