which brands/models woud be best for listening to music cd's and audio
books (cd's) that I've copied from my own cd's to my pc's
music software library?...

If you dont' need surround sound, I've found the Altec MX5021 setup to
be very nice. Nearly the only computer speakers I've found that I can
listen to music with that don't annoy the holy heck out of me:

I opened the LINK and saved it in a favorites folder so I can get back
to it when I've saved enough to purchase new pc speakers...

it turns out that when I bough new speaker wires (my cat chewed the old
ones) that they're defective but if I leave the speakers in the same
position and don't move them around or the wires around I can listen to
my music and audio book files just fine...
though I may end up returning the speaker wires sometime soon anyway...
