Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago, I solicited opinions on whether I should
pruchase a new lower cost TT like the Pro-ject, et al, or refurbish my
old Denon DP-62-L that had been in storage for some time, as I reenter
the analogue world. Well, I took the TT in to my trusty local store,
Audio Ectasy, and had them mount a new Grado Red, Audioquest mat, and
replace the stock cable with Audioquest. I also bought a Record Doctor
and some isolation feet from Audio Advisor. I've lived with the combo
for a few days now. The results? WONDERFUL! After having spent a
week in Carnegie Hall recently, conducting and hearing 4 concerts, I
now remember why I like analogue so much. It's MUCH more like music in
a good hall. Thanks to everyone for your advice.

You have jump from a crouch to a height of 9 feet 3 inches and use your
teeth to grab the baton out of the maestro's hand while he's suspended from
the ceiling of Carnegie Hall.

Well, I'm a conductor, mostly of wind ensembles, but also orchestras
and musical theater. I conduct and teach at a college in CA. My dear
mentor was Frederick Fennell, founder of the Eastman Wind Ensemble,
famous from all of those great Mercury discs. He passed away in
December, and in February there was a big convention of college band
conductors in NYC. The EWE was going to perform there, so his family
organized a small memorial for him at Carnegie. It wasn't public, just
the conductors who were at the event. I was lucky enough to be asked to
conduct the EWE at the event, along with a couple of other students of
his. He was a dear, super talented man, and we were all in tears. I
confess to thinking, while I was conducting, that this is the stage
where Bernstein, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, and so many other
legends stood. Of course, I'll never forget it, and Fred continues to
teach me every day.

Thanks for sharing. There were many moving obituaries, but one stood out
that quoted his daughter's account of one of his last conversations.
Most audiophiles have a Fennell recording or two. We're lucky his
artistry is an exception to Holt's Law.
