Hi, for those speaker builders out there that have built a centre channel
using a single full range coincident driver, what did you use as a driver.
It is difficult to find a coincident driver that is shielded for A/V use.

Hi, for those speaker builders out there that have built a centre

It is difficult to find a coincident driver that is shielded for A/V
use.
While I haven't built a centre channel with any of the conincident
drivers, if I were going to I would be thinking very favorably about
the SEAS drivers.
Since you don't need to cover the full audio range, any of their
shielded drivers should work very well covering the range of 100-16kHz.
Check in with www.diyaudio.com and search, I beleive you will find some
good ideas and help.
Hi Mike, I saw the SEAS co-ax driver and they only come in a 6.5". I was
looking to buy an 8" unit. I think that MCM used to carry a house brand
'syncrosound' coincident driver, ranging from 5" all the way to 12". But
they no longer carry them.
The SEAS is nice, but at US$100 a pop just for the driver, I'd like to
explore other options first. By the time I landed it, up here in canada, it
would cost me close to CDN$180 If need be & with no other choice, I'd buy
one.
The KEF UNI-Q is another option, but possibly not in an 8" and about the
same price as the SEAS.
If I find a source for other shielded coincidents, I can let you know FYI.

I don't know anything about the MCM unit, I have used SEAS drivers in
other projects and found them to be excellent. There are 2 models one
of which is less than $100.00 but I can't recall it's size.
I'll eventually find something, I reckon.
Coincident would be a nice way to go, but if need be I may go other routes.
Maybe something involving a ribbon tweeter. Thanks for the feedback Mike!

Mike!
No problem, but unless you have a really big room the SEAS driver
should be able to provide you with everything you need, pluss you can
get schematics for box and xover at Madisound's web site.
I think it makes more sense than most of the other center channel
speakers I've seen, the majority of which are MTM set sideways which
all wrong.
Good luck.
