View Full Version : slightly damaged sub questions

I currently have a setup where, likely due to some abuse in the past,
one of my two IDQ12s makes a tweeting/flapping noise if I push it
really hard. The sub still produces loud bass as if it's not damaged at
all.

I am curious as to whether playing the sub to the point where it makes
this flapping noise would worsen its condition, even though I don't
believe I would be overpowering or sending it a clipped signal at that
point.

I was also curious as to whether this partially damaged sub would do any
damage to the amp that was powering it. I know a completely blown sub
would damage the amp but I'm not sure about my situation.

The amp that's powering it is an MTX404 with two channels bridged for
approximately 250W RMS to the sub.

Thanks for any help,
Don

"Most" amps will shut down when there's a short.

If you hear something mechanical along with your music, it's probably a
good idea to turn it down.
