Sorry for the lame topic, but I need some SQ advice. I'm getting ready to
change out some components and I'm thinking about changing my a/d/s amps for
something newer. What's the opinion on the current JL amps or Phoenix Gold?
Is there a web site that has reviews high-end car amps? Are there other SQ
amps that I should consider?

Dave,
First off do a google search with "SQ amps" in the suject line. Or search
for author "Soundfreak03". You will find a ton of information and debates on
the SQ of amps. Basically I, and many knowledgable others, state that when
you operate an amp within its linear limits, ie without clipping, they all
sound the same.
Moving on. JL and PG amps are good amps, from my experience and reading they
seem to hold up well and put out their rated power. Here is a list of
criteria I use when buying an amp.
Power, price, crossovers, number of channels, reliability, resale value,
customer service from manufacture, warranty, size, and looks. These are not
in any particular order and are just an idea, but notice that SQ is not one
of the choices.

Dave,
Les had some excellent advice. Listen to him.
My Phoenix gold titanium series amps absolutley rock. They have tons of
power, are very reliable, and are extremely versatile. sounddomain.com has
some awesome prices on them & they're an authorized Internet dealer. I
wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help and sorry again for the vague opening
question. I've been so devoted to a/d/s for so many years that I'm really
not all that well informed about the current crop of amps. For my system,
it's SQ first with reliability a close second. I was talking to one dealer
today who sold both JL and Zapco and was REALLY pushing the Zapco line. Any
opinions on Zapco? BTW, I had a PG eq232 for quite a while using the
balanced
inputs from my Denon head units and it was a very, very nice unit. However,
the system I was running was so neutral that I found myself using
VERY little correction and I eventually took it out of the signal chain.
Their amps did LOOK impressive but I was still very happy with my a/d/s
gear then. I'll keep doing my homework and maybe I'll post some pix when I
get it all figured out.
dave
p.s. the speakers I'll be using in this system is the Dynaudio System 340 up
front and a JL Stealthbox in the back with a 10w3v2 driver inside.....so
far, I'm thinking the JL 250/1 for the sub and the new 450/4 running my
'340's with my Dyn Bi-amp xovers

Fellow a/d/s/ amp owner here. So why not just buy a/d/s/ again?

Zapco makes fine equipment. So does JL. JL's amps have very adjustable
crossovers. They've always seemed too pricey for me.
Anyway, Les and Tony's advice is right on.

amps... depending on how bad your source is, ALL brands will sound bad...
all things being equal... doubt you could go wrong with either choice.
