View Full Version : Help Ampman, John MMX, or anyone... ESX Q Amp question, please?

Guys,
I am resurrecting my old RX7 and want to use my old ESX Q1204 as the simple
amp for this simple system. I have 4 unused balanced cables for the Q amps
and need to figure out what headunit uses these same type balanced outputs
so that I can use a single mini-din ESX Q balanced from my HU to the amp for
both the front L/R channels. Since I am bridging the other two channels for
my single sub, I'm guessing that I'll need to go unbalanced for the sub
channel?

Obviously, I no longer have any documentation for this amp, or for the Q2751
which I sold long, long, ago.

Thanks for any and all help anyone can offer!

Take Care,
merc

You're going to buy a head unit based solely on whether or not it has the
same cable type as your amp?

Want a manual? It doesn't have the answer to your question in it though.

Actually, I want to buy an Eclipse CD8053, but, it uses some combo RCA
balanced cables instead of something like an XLR or even the mini din. So...
in order to use a balanced run I'd need some type of balanced RCA to
mini-din adapter?

Do you know where I can buy these?

As for the manual, I really don't think I'd need one for this amp since it's
already been used in this car before, but with unbalanced inputs. What I
need is the pin out schematic for the mini din cables.

Thanks anyway...
Take Care,
merc

BTW, I think the old Zapco's used this same type of balanced connectors...
what did folks hook up to them via those mini-dins?

No. But when you find out, let me know. I'd like one for my ESX Q1752.

Okay... Thanks again.

BTW... I do have 4 original ESX balanced cables and now only need two at
most...

If you find out something before me, please let me know and I'll be glad to
send you a cable for your Q175.2 ;-)

I believe those cables will directly connect with the Rockford Fosgate
Platinum series decks built for them by Denon. RF modified the
balanced connection on those to use the 6pin mini-DIN connector that
they use with their Symmetry EPX2 and BLT system.

First, Hi Stephen! Long time no see.

Thanks for the info on the RF HU. Usually I wouldn't consider an RF preamp,
but if Denon made it and it is based on their DCT-A1, then it has to sound
good... I hope? And, at $299, I'm not taking much of a risk anyway.

So... got my HU. Got my amp. Got my cables. Now all I need to do is decide
on some 3 way comps and a sub. :-)

BTW, do you still have your ESX amps?

Thanks again!

Take Care,

Nope no ESX amplifiers remaining.....There was a fella on the car
audio boards selling a pair of them though, one a Q2275 and one a
Q1204....

The Denford should sound great. I've had a Denon DCT-1000R for a few
years now and it's the best sounding affordable HU I ever heard.

Interstingly, I sold my original Q1204 and my Q2751 and then just recently
bought another mint Q1204 for my re-entry into this car audio crazyness. :-)
