Well, that explains why we're 50% MORE for our gas now.

People who think it was about the oil can't do math. It would have been
far cheaper to keep buying Iraqi oil over the next 20 years then to
depose saddam and occupy Iraq for 2.

Well, Chevron and Exxon aren't paying for the war.

The day-to-day price of oil varies quite abit, and isn't directly related to
Iraq's production. It is high right now because the refineries are switching
from heating oil to gasoline, and OPEC is holding down production, and
Venezula is messed up.
Iraq comes into the picture because it has vast reserves, and Saudi Arabia
is in trouble. The King is almost dead, and when he dies, there may be "big
trouble". The vast majority of Saudis don't like the royal family, and the
money they get from oil. The royal family consists of thousands of sponges
that live off the oil wealth that should be going to the general economy of
the country. The fact is is that the world's oil production may have peaked
already, and this (Iraq) is just a resource war. It is not neccessary for the
USA to steal oil from Iraq, I don't think that this is the goal. But there
must be a stable government friendly to the West to insure a steady supply of
oil. Saudi Arabia can not be counted upon to provide this oil. There needs to
be a supplier that will increase production when supplies are tight, and lower
supplies when there is a glut. It must be held by a cooperative regime. The
reality is that many Chinese and Indians want much more oil than previously
required as their economies become more auto-centric and industrialized. The
amount of oil is finite, and even with more efficient extraction, the reserves
are possibly half used. Google "peak oil" and Hubbert for more info.

This is the guy who had his newspaper shut down for printing lies that
incited violence isn't it?

Oh, and there's also this:

"U.S. officials said the warrant against al-Sadr, on charges of murdering a

now want to carry it out."

Yep. Sounds like a pretty good guy to me.

17 UN Resolutions, 2 congressional resolutions, and 10 million dead
shias, and 550,000 dead Kurds sound like about 10,550,019 legitimate
causes to me.

Resistance might be logical. Insurgence sponsored by a neighboring state
and using foreign fighters who want to use Iraq as a proving ground for
a fundamentalist state doesn't sound too logical to me.

1. Bin Ladin is a dick
2. Saddam is a dick
3. President Bush is a dick
4. All three of them have sent their own people to die in vain, and all three
of them have managed to find fanatics who'll support them.
This a ridiculous war of lies and it needs to be stopped. And no, I'm not some
tree hugging, anti-war pansy or worse yet, a degenerate hippie. But facts is
facts folks, let's let the president know that American citizens won't tolerate
sending young men off to die over lies, half-truths and political spin - just
so G.W. can finish daddies business. This so called war on terrorism, which
should really be called "finishing Bush the I's business in Iraq because we
folded to coalition wishes during the Gulf War more then a decade ago" probably
would've happened years ago if Perot hadn't split the republican vote and
handed Clinton his first term. This is just "Bush regime Part II", let's
smarten up and stop it from going on for a second term.

Saying it's a lie makes it a lie though, I take it. Everyone should
just wear the rose colored glasses and ignore everything until absolute
proof jumps up from out of nowhere? We know there actually is evidence
that _suggests_ the possibility of what the poster is saying. How about
some investigation rather than closing your mind? Because you don't
personally care for the ramifications. That's different from it's being
an absolute "lie."

You're just hiding and grasping at straws. What if mankind always
ignored every concept that initially arrived lacking absolute proof? I
doubt you could even identify "existing power structures"--accompanied
by absolute evidence. We should indeed be critical and ask questions.

> There was a time when conspiracy theories at least had the air of

People should possess a lot of political hatred, unless you've been
living in a cave. I was waiting for the trendy, pejorative term of
ridicule, the rational, All-American in-crowd "me too" catchphrase
("conspiracy theory") to show up in your post. That tells me you're
probably just one of the bent-over-for-the-soap crowd.

If you're more worried about wacky conspiracy theorists than power,
which tends to consolidate itself in a feedback loop (hey look I'm
almost on topic!), you're dangerously ignorant.

Hope this helps,

Steve

I don't need to know. The "rich" play the class warfare game all the
time. People like George Soros, or Warren Buffet - what I call the
"guilty white men". These are like the little trust fund babys who never
really worked for their fortunes, so they feel guilty that they enjoy
splendor and luxury, so they advocate that government do it for everyone
else. Notice the standard - they won't do anything theirselves - they
want everyone else to do it. Believe me, I've seen the type before. At
least with poor liberals, I can make them see the light (and most of
them are damn happy when they realize that their destiny really is in
their own hands).

> And regardless of that, how do you know he's not right?

Fostering division, hatred, and telling people they can't achieve
because some "invisible hand" is holding them down is never right.
