Manufacturing's the "easy" part. It's usually done wherever the labor is
cheap. I'd be more interested to know where the bulk of the design is done.
I'd guess that most of the higher end stuff is in-house, though I suspect
that asian firms have a hand in a lot of it too.

A good design is only as good as the cheapest, weakest part in the
product. When a hungry 8 year old with no shoes on is making it, you
guess how it comes out.

Equipment today is built almost flawlessly. When it goes, it's usually due
to abuse. That hungry 8 year old with no shoes on does one hell of a job.

Abuse? Crap breaking within an hour of use is abuse? Cmon man. If you
want to argue just to argue ok then. But cmon. And yeah, you would do a
hell of a job too if your pops was gona beat your red hair brown if you
fugd up.

Usually, yeah. Abuse includes poor installation, and poor installation
includes faulty wiring and wiring up the subs/speakers wrong. If an amp or
speaker is gonna go, it usually goes right away.

So disagreeing with you is "arguing just to argue"? Since you're
disagreeing with me, are you "arguing just to argue" too?

My Phoenix Gold TI500.4 amplifier (Portland, OR) says "Made in USA" on it.

I can say this with absolute certainty because I walked through the
manufacturing dept. every day when I worked there; Phoenix Gold amps and
speakers are manufactured in the good ol' US of A. In Portland, OR.

Not all of them... like most brands in car audio these days, PG imports
a large chunk of their stuff. It's just the real high-end stuff that is
made there.

Hmmm. Well, I worked there in 2000-20001 and I suppose some things may have
changed. But as I recall, ALL amps were manufactured on site, even the
low-end ones (I can't say for sure about all speakers). Of course, the
components to the amp were made overseas, so it might be more appropriate to
say they were ASSEMBLED in the USA.
What is your experience with PG? Did you or do you still work there (I'm
not trying to challange your ascertion, I'm just wondering if we might have
crossed paths)?

Between Phoenix Gold (Portland), Audio Control (Mountlake Terace, near
Seattle) and Cardomain, (Tukwila, also near Seattle) us people up here in
the Pacific Northwest have it made! Okay, so Cardomain is a retailer...but
a damn good one at that!!

That is not the point. The point is you migh bought the counterfeit
model like Alpine usually from China. China and HOng kIng are the
counterfeit
capital of the world. Buying a chinese made Alpine is like buying a
chinese made a Rolax watch.
You got the old model. All the new model is from China.
