View Full Version : Normalization question

I want to burn a CD that'll have both .wav files and mp3s. Will
normalizing the tracks adversely affect the quality of the .wav files?
I just want the mp3s to match the volume of the .wav files -- but I
don't want to compromise the .wav files.

The narrow answer is no, normalizing won't audibly affect the sound quality
of a .wav file under normal circumstance.

You can also alter the volume of MP3 files using tools like MP3 gain

Normalizing does not match the volume of MP3 files, it just makes sure that
the loudest parts have the same amplitude. Our perception of volume is much
more complex than that. See the MP3Gain web site (URL above) for more
information.
