View Full Version : Entry Level Bookshelf Speaker Advice Needed - Epos ELS-3 vs. Axiom M3tis vs. Paradigm Titans

Hi,

I'm looking to get a pair of bookshelf speakers to use with my low-end (Denon
DRA545-R) receiver in my 13'x13' home office (a very "live" sounding room for
music, wood floors and wood paneling). Any opinions on the above listed
speakers? I've heard great things about the Epos in particular, but I heard
that they will probably be unforgiving with my cheap receiver. Maybe I should
pick up an Onkyo TX-8511 or another receiver that might do them a little more
justice? My musical tastes are very broad - I enjoy progressive rock,
alternative, classic soul music, post-1960s jazz in all its varities, the 20th
c. classical greats, baroque classical - but when it comes down to it, I'd
sacrifice a little refinement in the sound of the speakers for a more dynamic
and live sound (the classical I listen to I enjoy immensely, but I don't listen
to it all that much). With that in mind, which ones would you recommend?

Thanks.

I'd recommend some Magnepan MMGs myself. The unit can handle a single
pair of 4 ohm speakers, so it's not "low-end" - or wasn't when it
came out.

If you want conventional speakers, I like Tannoy myself, though
it all depends upon your budget.

We're using a pair of Totem Mites with a Denon mini-system in a room similar
to yours. The sound is very nice and you can always keep the speakers if you
upgrade the system. I also have a pair with a NAD L40 in a larger room.
Good Luck.
Wad.
