using pioneer sa6500 2

got it becasue my fisher was getting flacky--used to take rec output
into computer--worked great--could not however use tape dec



with the pioneer i get or seem to get no output from rec out put

so i am useing phone output ( front of amp)--get tape now and vinyl


any ideas on how to really test the rec output otehr than a oscilloscope



any comments about the pioneer amp and recoding vinyl ar appreciated.

I would be afraid to do that. The record outputs are 1 volt
peak to peak, also called "line level". The head phone outputs
are tapped off of the main amplifier, and are at speaker level.
This is a much higher voltage, and it could damage whatever you
plug into. At the very least, you need an antenuator cord when
doing this.

Connect your tape deck record in to your SA-6500 record out.
Then connect some other source to your SA-6500, such as a
tuner or turntable. Set up the 6500 and tape deck to make
a tape recording. See if you can adjust the record level
so the meters are dancing around the 0db mark or just into
the red area. If you can do that, then the record out is
working just fine. If not, then something is wrong.

Doesn't the 6500 have pre/main jumpers? They look like 'U' shaped wires
which separate the preamp and power amp RCA connectors when you pull them
out. If so, use the preamp output and monitor on your computer speakers.

Sill, there's something wrong, if the tape outs don't work....
