Okay, I checked my outbox, through the magic of copy-and-paste,
here's my comment:

Don't you have to do that real-time with an 8-track cartridge by
inserting a matchbook at the appropriate position? Sorry, it's been a
long time since I operated an 8-track cartridge player, but I recall
that nonsmokers had a helluva time getting any HF response.
