I have a 1988 Linn Axis turntable which I think needs a new motor (a
belt replacement has failed to fix erratic speed / slow start-up).
Firstly, does this sound plausible? Second, what would I expect to
pay for such a job?
Coupled with this, I gather it is no longer possible to obtain to
obtain the K5 stylus which came with the default cartridge. So -
should I also obtain another cartridge, and if so, what sort?
Finally, is the combination of these two pieces of work so expensive
that I would be better off biting the bullet, and buying a new
turntable?
If so, any recommendations in the £300 - £400 area? Is the Technics SL
1200 any good for domestic purposes?
I have a NAIM amp and Arcam speakers... my main vinyl use is for
digital transfers if that makes a difference to the ideas offered.
Many thanks in advance
