Analog DB25 Splitter Box?

Anyone know where I can find a D-Sub splitter box. I need 1 Female D-Sub
in, 2 D-Sub outs. Need to send the outputs of my preamps to 2 recorders.
I actually need 24 channels, so 3 in, 6 out.

Any Ideas?

Make one with ribbon cable and three crimp-on D-25 connectors. You may
have a crosstalk issue this way, but you can build the thing for five or six
bucks in parts and find out.

have a crosstalk issue this way, but you can build the thing for five or six
bucks in parts and find out.

can easily make one for you. I've found that their prices for custom
work like this quite reasonable. Go to http://www.whirlwindusa.com and
ask them for a quote.

$700 for a rack mount 3in 6out box. I though maybe someone knew of a
cheaper alternative.

Are you sure he (and Whirlwind) knew you just wanted a hard-wired
parallel cable? For $700 I would expect that they were thinking of a
transformer isolated splitter. If you called it "splitter" that's
probably what they quoted. Call Whirlwind yourself and make sure they
now what you're talking about.

I did in fact wind up talking to Whirlwind myself. There are definitely
no transformers, just a parallel split.

I think that has transformers in it. I might be wrong. 24 decent mic
split transformers are not cheap.

If you just want to split preamp outputs why not "Y" them into the
recorders? The pre outs are/should be low enough impedance that driving
two high impedance inputs from a single pre out shouldn't cause trouble.

recorders? The pre outs are/should be low enough impedance that driving
two high impedance inputs from a single pre out shouldn't cause trouble.

That's what he wants to do. He wants a box with connectors on the front
that will let him Y them out.

I do think a ribbon cable would be my first try. It won't cost much.

to make him a panel-mounted Y adapter. Maybe ribbon cable would work
OK. That would only cost about $10.
