Editing a concert on the computer, I got lazy and was going to do all the
editing in 16 bit. I couldn't do it. I was hearing all the little things
that fail when you start manipulating 16 bits (instead of 24) and I had to
revert, convert to 24 bit (actually 32-bit floating point) and do my
editing.

Specifically:
(1) Fades *from* silence are more audible at the start of a song.
(2) Reverb needs the extra bits to decay cleanly.

Yeah, it takes longer, but it's worth it.

Why does it take longer?

This machine is still running Cool Edit 2.1.

Primarily because I have to convert to and from 16 bit, but also because
Cool Edit is a bit more sluggish with the x2 file sizes.
