David Baker RIP

Since I haven't seen this posted on r.a.p. yet, I'll pass along this
message I got from a friend:

You have already heard of it, but David Baker passed away on Wednesday,
July 14th in Rochester, NY while he was doing recording there.
He was staying his friend's house and died in sleep in the early
Wednesday morning.

We don't know what has exactly caused his death yet, but as of now it
seems to be a natural death and not to be suffered with pain.

His family funeral is held in Atlanta on 24th or 25th of July, where he
grew up and his sisters live.

We will have a memorial service in New York at Avatar Studios in early
August.

My first recording credits were assisting David Baker in 1986 on live
Concert recordings of Stanley Jordan for "Cornucopia", with guys like Kenny
Kirkland and Jeff Watts.

RIP David, and thanks.

This is very sad news. David didn't seem much over sixty, if even
that. It was much too soon.

He taught me most of what I know, and he and I worked together on a
number of recordings in 2001-2002. He was a good guy, a real
venerable jazz cat. He was one of the few who knew how to get a good
Old School sound, just right for The Music. Without him, you're going
to hear a lot more stillborn disks.

You'll be missed dB, a lot.

Well go figure. We have something in common.

I worked with Stanley on a PBS NOVA Special, and that led to the album
"Magic Touch". Very talented guy.
