Thank you to those who made comments on my decision. I love this
thing. It is perfect for my applications i.e. depositions; hearings;
DL matters; witness interviews, etc etc. Very light, instant tranfer
to computer for buring to CD and off to the client. They are happy
and so am I.

I can hear no difference between the WAV capture and the MP3/44.1/128
capture and I can go all day on a 512 - 1 gig card. I see you can get
a 1 giger for about $150 at NewEgg. The manual sets it at 32 for mono
voice so I am wondering if 128 is even necessary.

I also ordered the $100 hard carrying case since I move around a lot.

As an aside, I am amazed sometimes as to how technologically deficient
most lawyers are. They have no idea what an MPEG file is, never heard
of a Newsgroup, etc etc. I think our Florida Bar is still using
WordPerfect for DOS.....

Anyhow, I have a very nice Sony portable cassette player for sale if
anyone is interested. Actually I will keep it in the case with a few
blank tapes just as a back up. Can't beat it from a size standpoint.

Thanks again to those who commented.

Good to know it's working out for you. I'm taking one to
China on a 5-city performance/recording tour in the fall.

And just to be fair, lawyers are amazed sometimes at how
deficient in legal knowledge "most"
artistic/music/"technical" people are. Just to be fair ...

So, where are you going in China, and what are you performing? Is it that
Britney Spears tour I read about?

Well, in that sense they are at least ahead of all the people using
MS Word for Windows. (They are probably getting things typed much
faster using WordPerfect...)

And I'd love to know just who can type faster than any modern
computer/software package can cope with!

Oh, you know, the oldies -- Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Beethoven,
others too numerous to mention

This will be a B.S.-free tour.

It would appear that you are not familiar with real word processing
software. Word Perfect 5.1 is an excellent tool. It also demonstrates -
as does CALSOD - just how much performance that is wasted buy the latter
day GUIs.

Interestingly Microsoft doesn't seem to rush to adopt a multithreaded
approach for their gui, but still redraw all and the kitchen sink just
to redraw a single docked icon.

Remember the Amstrad Joyce? - almost from the age of using <on topic>
casette tape </on topic> as storage device - CP/M and a weird floppy
format that was unusable on any other computer on this planet, but a
very capable word processor and in fact also a fun computer.

Not only that, but how fast the computer responds is only a small
part of the picture. The bigger part is how fast the computer lets
you do your work. If the software makes you go through several
tedious steps to do simple things like change the color of text,
then that will affect how quickly you can get the job done.

Software these days is usually very much slanted towards an easy
learning curve but low efficiency once you've learned the software.
I prefer the other way around, because in the long term I save time.
At least for apps I use often, like word processors, text editors,
e-mail programs, file navigation, etc.
