View Full Version : Where could I find non-hypercompressed music?

With all the loudaholism that has infected popular music today, is
there anyplace to find _any_ music recording that is NOT
hypercompressed/limited-to-hell (and irritating sounding?) On the two
concert DVDs I have, I rarely see my meter pin in the red. (Is that
because of the Dolby Digital standards?)
I've taken to checking samples of everything I'm interested in buying
on the iTMS. If it keeps my meter in the red, I don't buy it.
Do you think that this loudaholism will ever stop? (I'm seriously
reconsidering going into audio as a career because of it, and I've
loved audio since I was 6.)

I try to keep the loudaholism down. It is my clients that demand it and they
are paying the bills.

I got two! They say Ampex on the front panel! Through the use of
ferromagnetic technology I can listen to sounds made decades ago!

Don't you just love it when the chorus comes in and it's so squashed that
it sounds quiet and wimpy compared to the verse?
blahblah
ALL MUSIC IS ORIGINAL...
EVEN IF ONLY ONE NOTE IS CHANGED!
EVERYONE CREATES IN A VACUUM!

It will stop only after all the mastering people are killed off. These
are the same people that rant all the time against the sound of
compression then you see them doing exactly what they're bitching
about.
Consider listening to catalog stuff, you know, music made by
dinosaurs before digital compression was discovered and abused.
Reminds me of the old story, "Doc, it hurts when I raise my arm", to
which the doctor replys, "don't raise your arm".
The solution is to give up the drug.
