No, this is not the name of my band but the problem in my studio. I have a
cricket in my control room that is so loud it makes it hard to do a session
at night. Anybody have this problem before? Any simple solution?

We have several crickets in our building, but so far not in the studios. It's
amazing how loud they can be in a resonant hallway. There are some simple
solutions, but they're not good for the cricket (they involve shoes and/or
cats). Crickets are considered good luck, so you might want to be careful how
you deal with yours.

I was just going to say that. A client of mine has a percussion studio in an
industrial building that seems infested with crickets. When he had a cat there,
we never had cricket problems. Now that his cat has gone to the big litter box
in the sky, we can't get through a minute of tracking without the racket
starting up. One cricket in an all concrete room is astonishingly loud.

Just has to hear it, really. I think once the cricket realizes the cat is
around it just shuts up for fear of detection.

Man, those come in lots of sizes, and the ones around here that can make
a huge racket are very, very small. Every once in a while we'd get the
noice going and look everywhere for its source, without success;
eventually I located one and we all went, "No ****! So _that's_ why we
usually can't find them: they're miniature and translucent!"

Shoes, cats, chickens are generally good anticricket devices, and you
can also infuse your environment with cricket pheromones and they'll die
masturbating.

Some people are allergic to cats; only fundametalists are allergic to
masturbation.

Get Linux.

Or bug-spray. Or a hammer, or a net if you in harmony with nature. Or you
could sample it.

Ah, but the cat may pose a whole new set of issues such as hair stuck between
the desk modules, clawing the monitors, loud meowing etc., etc. God help you if
the cat ****es on something since uric acid is highly corrosive. We have a
"cub" in our studio, but keep her out of the live rooms and control rooms for
many reasons including the fact that some clients are allergic. She is a
Siamese and has "slipped" past a door and into a session several times. In a
recent session, we had just finished tracking and a client was sure she heard
meowing. We found the track, but ended up leaving it since it was burried in
the mix and the cat actually meowed with perfect timing.

Ah, if Moses Asch was still with us...

One of my favorite steel band LPs (not on Folkways) has a cricket all
