hi. i am looking for a good windscreen to use with a sony ecm-ms907
microphone. i lost the one that came with it, plus it wasn't very
good at reducing wind noise. i use the mic for sampling - recording
into a portable MD recorder - so i often find myself outside in windy
situations. please email any recommendations.
thanks!

Because of the figure 8 capsule in that mic you damn near
have to go to something like a Rycote to shield it from
wind. I've had little success with the open cell sponge type.

thanks for the suggestion Bob. i checked out Rycotes products but it
doesn't look like they'll fit the ecm-ms907. they're also more than
what i'd like to spend. i'll keep looking.

Take the foam wind screen that comes with the 907 and sew a sock for it out of
fake wolf fur from a fabric shop .The stuff is about $7/Yard.
It doesn't provide the dead air of a Rycote windjammer with a dead cat, but it
comes very close.
I've used these "Tribbles" many times with my AKG 451's and my Shure VP88.
I even built one for my Sony mic that came with my TCD-D10 DAT machine in 1988.
It may have been a 907.
I used that machine for ambience recording and sample gathering in the fires of
Yellowstone in 1988. Pretty tough conditions, and I had to keep my hands free
to operate a video recorder(M2--remember those? ) so I gaffed it to the top of
my helmet. Looked pretty silly, but really worked.

Is the backing for that fake fur really acoustically transparent? If
it's like other fake fur I've seen, it's fairly dense. Maybe I'm
thinking of something else.

The stuff I have has a fairly open weave on it and seems to work well.
There is always the ultimate wind stopper and that is a condom, but it really
is too much.
