View Full Version : CD writing software that will stop after each track plays

I need to burn a CD with several tracks but I want the selection
playing to stop automatically right after it plays so I can comment on
the selection that just played. I then want to have to manually
advance it to the next track. Is there a CD burning software that
will do that?

I just realized I can set my boombox to repeat the same track so that
will work

No. That's not part of the Red Book standard. That's a function of the CD
player.

You could put a 10 or 20 sec space after the song.

Likely not a function of the "Red Book" standard. There is probably
nothing you can write on the disk to make that happen. You'll have to
find a cd player that supports that. Of course it is easily done if you
are playing on a computer.
Elektor Electronics magazine recently published an article/kit that
showed how to use any old CDR drive as a CD player. I believe the
firmware provided supports playing specific tracks upon pushing
particular buttons. And it would be realtively easy to hack the
firmware to cause it to play track-at-a-time.

If you you don't have too many tracks, just interspearse them with tracks
composed of say a minute of silence. However much silence it takes to at
least give you enough time to stop it manually without being in a panic.
Hopefully, enough time to cover the time you will be talking.

Actually, what you need is a CD player feature that is not part of the "Red
Book" standard.

You can put as much silence behind a song as you want to. It will be red
book if you just combine the song + 10 sec (silent) wave together. I do
it all the time 10-15-20 second silence. It allows me to sing a song (acc.
by CD) and have time to catch my breath and walk to the CD player to stop
the track.
Simple solution->
WHY NOT USE THE PAUSE BUTTON on the CD player??
Or is this too simple of a solution to post on rec.audio.PRO?
:)

No. There may be a CD player that offers this function.
How long would your comments be? Is there room on the CD to append
this amount of silence (plus a bit for luck) to each track?
"Play track and stop" is a feature of most MiniDisk players (maybe not
the little portable ones). It's one of the reasons MiniDisk is so
useful for sound cues in theatre. Do you have a MiniDisk player?
Or you could press Stop at the end of each track ;-)

The Sony 1u rack CD players do this.

It's called "Auto Pause" mode, and yes, this, among other features, such as
re-ordering of tracks, & re-writing of start IDs, is why MiniDisk has come to
dominate theatre sound cue chores.
