Personally I'd be shocked if anything being sold today could not read
a CD-R.

-RW is probably not a safe bet unless the manufacturer claims it
straight away. Howveer, if you have a tweeter store nearby though,
it's a very simple thing to test if no one knows. With how cheap
-R's are, I'm not sure if anyone's really bothering with -RW's.
