Well, it's come down to these two headunits for my new system. I will
be using Dynaudio components with Brax amplification.
I would love to hear anyones, especially owners, opinions of these two
headunits. I haven't seen either upclose, but hear wonderful things
about them.
Is it true the 7990 face is plastic? The shiny finish and price is the
biggest negative towards it. Sorry, cosmetics do play a little role in
it.
You can replay to this thread or email me personally, but ANY
advice/opinions are welcome.
Thanks,
Scott

Have you also considered the Pioneer DEX-P9/DEQ-P9 combo or a Denon
DCT-Z1 or R1? The Denon's might be hard to find these days but there
are a few around whenever I search for things...

Is it true that the only difference between the CD-700 and the CD-700II is
cosmetics?
The dealer that I purchased my CD-700 from said it is a better-sounding unit
that the 7990, however the 7990 is THE choice for multi-media connectivity.
The 700 skips a little too much for my taste, and it's really sensitive to
scratched CDs. But the SQ was supberb. I was using it with Dynaudio as
well, with the hopes of upgrading to Brax one day. I think the Nak/Dyn/Brax
combo would be stellar.
I'd be very interested in hearing your final decision and the results.
Good luck.

The Alpine would be the better choice for a multimedia system. Also look at
Eclipse's 55090 multimedia deck, it's being phased out, but it got stellar
reviews, and you'll be able to get a good price. Their CD8053 and CD8443 decks
should be on your list too.

If you read the Nak website, they say the CD-700II has an improved transport
system.
I wouldn't even compare the Alpine to the Nak CD-700/II. They are made for
TOTALLY DIFFERENT AUDIENCES.
The Nak is made 100% with SOUND QUALITY in mind. The Alpine, well, isn't. If
you want features etc. go for the Alpine. If you want GOOD SOUND don't screw
around with crap like that.

The 7990 is more of a multimedia interface. I think that Alpine's CDA-9815 and
Eclipe's CD8053 and CD8443 units would compare very well to any Nak unit in
terms of sound quality. There sure are plenty of SQl Competition cars running
Alpine gear. Pioneer's P9 and Alpine's F#1 status decks are highly overpriced,
so I hear. Altough Denon's DCT-Z1 is said to be fantastic.
