View Full Version : Small Mono Amp Needed for Subwoofer

A while back, I put together a very simple subwoofer for my equally simple
TV sound system. I used an 8 in driver (from Madisound) mounted in a 24 in
section of cardboard form tube and built in a simple capacitor filter. Up
to now, I've been using an old NAD 3020 to power it but I want use the NAD
for something else now, so I want to build and install a small amp inside
the woofer.

Originally, I thought of using the power amp and PS guts from some old beat
up home stereo amp, but that ended up being too messy. I looked for some
simple IC-based amps but I don't think any of those will have enough current
delivering capability. (I'm not trying to shake the windows, but ... )

I'm now thinking of getting a mediocre used car bass amp (gotta be millions
of those just laying around) and just using a small (couple or three amps?)
12v PS for it. Does this seem like a reasonable approach? (It's now a
matter of principle to keep this on the cheap.)
