Heres some good reading for you. Its nothing new (although it is new to
me personally :~). home audio geeks have been doing this for decades.
Richard Clark, Harry Kimura, Todd Matsubara and other USD Speakerworks
vehicles dominated the IASCA SQ events in the late 80's with these
enclosure designs.

I've tested the Autosound 2000 products, an absorbant woofer covering that also
includes an electronic filter. AFAICT the mat does nothing but help filter
artifacts such as suspension noises or mid-range reflections from the rear of
the enclosure that re-radiate through the cone.
The term "aperiodic' goes back to the early 70s when some speakers put small
holes (leaks) in a cabinet that were supposed to eliminate the system resonance
.....eg make the system without resonance.
There was a good sounding, inexpensive system that was called "aperiodic" but
that claim was just as much bull**** as the modern term.
But if you want to put a fiberous pad in front of your woofer there's really no
down side and it will work just as well as facing the driver-side away from the
listening seat. Just don't over-spend on it.
