I have an older PPI 2150AM that burned up on me a while ago. Not sure what
happened but it just stopped working. It blew a fuse once and my friend
said to just wrap in tin foil until I replace it. I forgot to replace and
it melted the power wire a bit. This was about 3 years ago. It's been
sitting in my basement and just wondering should I throw it out or try to
get it fixed??
thanks

you could take it apart and look for any blown capactiors.... easy to
swap...easy to tell if it is blown

It was probably repairable until it blew the aluminum foil fuse. Now
the PCB traces are probably burned.

You may try posting to this newsgroup for Ge0; he is knowledgeable in the
repair of older PPI amps.

Depends on the extent of the damage. I have seen blown amps that had
the PCB traces burnt up, and the fab black and charred from the heat. I
think this amp had some sort of short internally and the PCB layer
traces were "popped" like a fuse. I dont think damage to this extent
can be repaired, unless you add jumper wires to replace the fried traces.
If its just faulty wave soldered PCB components, then yes easily
repair-able, assuming you can trouble shoot the circuit back to the
defective component.

Anything is repairable. The only quesion is, "is it worth it to you?". Do
youn have any use for the amp? If so, how much would you be willing to
spend to have it fixed? Is this worth it compared to the price of a new or
equivalent used amp?
I've repaired amps with golf ball sized holes burned in them before. It's
nothing I would recommend, I would have just purchased another amp
(reliability issues) but the owners of these amps insisted that they be
fixed at whatever expense. Crazy....
