I was searching for some subs for sale online to get an idea of the price
range. Now audio wanted 375 for one 15" 15W3. I was wondering what's the
difference in the models and how the perform from each other. I'm asking
because I havent found a place yet that has these subs and an amp working at
the same time, and I cant listen to them for myself, i'm all bad luck at the
moment. The subs are . . .

JL Audio
15W3
15W3 d2
15W3 d4
10W0

I was wondering what's the best of these models and how they perform to each
other. I was looking at getting the 15W3's but I found a great deal on a
pair of 15W3 d2's. How do these rate to the 15W3's? I just found out that
i'm getting a truck i'm trading in my camaro. Would these be too much for
that truck for me to handle with such small space in the cab? I could deal
with it but people with first hand experience are the best and what i'm
looking for.

Thanks for the time.

It's a matter of time. The W3 d2 and W3 d4 are identical (with the exception
of the impedance of the voice coils). The W3 is the newer model which you
can get with either 2 or 4ohm voice coils (they just dropped those
designations from the model #)
The W0 series of subs is JL's answer to people on a small budget who don't
have much space to work with. Are you on a small budget?

JL recommends a minimum sealed volume of 1.5 ft^3 for each 15 ... also the
speaker is just over 8" deep, so the enclosure will need to have an external
depth of at least 11" for the first 10" or so (with a wedge design) Is the
truck a standard cab?
If money allows, I would recommend 3 10W3v2 with 6ohm coils. Run these with
600 - 1200W @ 4ohm (all three in parallel), and if you can manage to port
the enclosure(s) then do so.

Actually the W3's are the older line. The W3 v.2 (in either the d2 or d4
version) are the newer versions.

This is correct. Check out www.jlaudio.com for more info.

I think you miss-read the OP ... he didn't say W3 v2 ... he said W3d2 (and
W3d4), which are the older designations that JL used for the W3 line, but
have sinced dropped ... probably because customers who didn't know much
thought the d4 would be inherently better because the number is bigger. I
have noticed that all of the equipment he has mentioned on RAC is currently
on EBAY, so I think in this case he wants to find out if the older JL gear
that he can pick up cheap will hold a candle to the new equipment.

No, I read it correctly. JL still uses the d2, d4 and d6 designations but
now they have a single manual for the bunch of them. If they didn't have
the designation nobody would have a clue which version they had. The v2 was
added to distinguish the newer series since in very un-JL fashion they
reused the model number. Come to think of it they did that with the W6's
too.
