View Full Version : Amp lead terminal too small to insert cable (about 8mm size)

It is said that the larger the wire size the better, so I bought a wire of
~8mm size. The problem is that the amp (Alpine MRV-T320) has a smaller lead
terminal (~6mm). What should I do?
What is AWG? For the amp it says it is best to use AWG6-AWG18...?

Thank you!

Couple of options ...
1) if you ever plan to add more amps then buy a fused distrobution block
now. Then you can run a smaller wire from the distro clock to your amp.
2) strip the end of the wire and cut enough strands off that it will fit in
the connector.

Choose option 1)

Stands for American Wire Gauge ... is a standard for measuring the thickness
of a wire. 8mm wire must be 4-gauge, which is larger then 6-gauge (I know
that makes no sense, but it is the way they do it)

That or get a hold of a heat gun and it will shrink it a little, i have
a friend that has fit a 0/1 gauge power wire in a 0/4 gauge terminal
when he used a heat gun. Just beware it takes a long time.

I am curious as to how a heat gun is going to shrink a copper wire? Just
wondering, because I am an electrician and haven't seen anything like that
before ... copper may be soft, but it's not mercury.
