It'll fade away in a couple of years in favor of solid state
technology.
Every mechanical solution is only temporary.

I'll be among the first to have a solid state AV system :-)

In about 5 years I guess, when the market picks it up.
People are tired of yet another format, but there seems to be some
concensus about the longevity of solid state technology.
I for one am not a film freak, but I'm about ready with those clumsy
VHS cassettes (maybe that's why).

If and when new memory technology comes along, I'm ready to adopt.
I'll just skip the DVD stage.
