I looking for suggestions for a receiver I can use in my store. I
want to hook the receiver up to six small bookshelf speakers to be
placed around the 2,000 sq ft. room. All six speakers will be playing
together in mono.

Would like it to be $500 or less. Any recommendations?

First of all I don't think you will find it easy to get mono capability
at any price. But you can get stereo receivers under $150 from Sony. If
all you are doing is background music anything you buy will work so long
as you hook up your speakers in series/ parallel. Something used will do
fine. I would try 8 speakers (4 speakers per channel in stereo) to give
better coverage and make the wiring easier.

Let me see if I got this right -- I can take one stereo receiver and
hook up 2 pairs of speakers to the speaker terminals A and, another
two pairs to speaker terminals B for a total of 8 speakers and play
them all at once?

I have 8 ohm speakers. What is the probability of burning up the amp
or speakers?

Btw, thanks for the reply Wylie.
