well seeing how you only want to spend around $500 and you want best bang
for buck.. i'd just get a new sub and amp and deal with the stock sound till
you can upgrade the front stage.
DJ TecThreat Recommend's
Infinity BassLink or Bazooka Serious Subs... OR a JL Audio 10W3 with a
used PPI Amp (ebay)
Nuff said.

New speakers. Nothig will make as big a difference as new speakers will.

"Bazooka Serious Subs" = Bazooka Series* Subs.
BTW: Paul is right, new speakers.. but best bang for buck systems usually
dont start with "sound quality first"

Thanks for the replies!
I have a nice pair of Infinity's in my home and like the crisp, high-end,
clean sound. What would you suggest for the truck?

Whatever sounds best to you. Try to listen to some speakers in a car.
Speakers that sound bright in a demo board will be absolutely sizzling (and
not in a good way) in your truck. If it sounds a little flat in the board
they should be pretty good in the car.

Yikes- I would have guessed the opposite; the cripser they were in a
showroom the better- as they wouldn't be so good in the truck. Thanks again
for the tip!

You have to remember that in a car (or truck) you have a ton of reflective
surfaces (windows, plastic and metal panels, etc...) that will amplify the
highs.

A point of clarification; reflective surfaces do not 'amplify' high
frequencies. They just do not absorb or attenuate them as much as an absorptive
surface.

Correct. I was trying to get my point across rather than get into the
technical details.
