Hi! I am getting ready to purchase some subs for my car and I was wondering
if one 12" Solo Baric L7 in a cheap box would be better than two 12" CompVRs
in a cheap dual enclosure. They have the solo baric on ebay for 209 and the
comps for 199. Not that im going to buy them off ebay just as a price
reference. I usually listen to my music loud and want loud hard hitting
bass. And also on a side note what would be the cheapest amp i could buy
without being to low end? Thanks for the help.

I cant comment on L7 versus CompVRs, no first hand experience.
What do you mean by "cheap box"? Both are great subs I hope you do them
justice and enclose them in their recommended box volume... Im willing
to bet that Either will sound pretty bad in a poorly designed enclosure.

Just my thoughts.

What matters much more is having the enclosure and speaker match.
Mistach them enough and all you have is an expensive electric heater
that rattles badly.

personally, I think that the two comp VRs are a LOT louder than the one
solo, and also, make sure your using sealed with the comps, and a HUGE
ported box with the solo. I live with bassaholics.

im thinkin about gettin a pair of kicker 12L7's, ive heard from some
people that they are too loud and sound bad, and some people have said
that they are great subs. about 1/3 of the music i listen to is rock,
1/3 techno, and 1/3 rap, would they be decent subs for what i listen
to. i know there has been a lot of discussion about them and i searched
through and read some posts about them but still am torn between
getting them. And if i got them would ported be the best way to go, or
would they sound better in a sealed box. thanxs

This is the kind of spew I'd expect from someone with no firsthand
experience. In the same type of enclosure, 2 CompVR's WILL be louder but
not by much. Both the CompVR's and Solos can be used in ported or sealed
enclosures. If maximum bass is what you're after then ported is the way to
go. I would do the S12L7 in a ported box with about 750 watts. You'll hit
mid 140's all day long. 2 CVR12's will hit about the same but the box will
be a lot bigger.

If you're limited on space, go with a sealed enclosure. Sealed
enclosures don't loose the low-end as quickly when undersized. If you
have lots of room, go for ported. The tuned port adds a load to the
speaker where it would normally distort from too much cone excursion.

Check an online subwoofer cabinet calculator.

I wish more people would indicate whether or not they have first hand
experience....

I'm tellin' ya! It's ridiculous how some people will just spout off the
first thing they hear from "a friend" or read in some literature.

Hey there, I don't know about the comp VRs but I had a L7 and wasn't
impressed at all with it. It didn't go very low, wasn't very tight and
didn't really get that loud. It was in a sealed encloser and guess they are
supposed to get a lot louder in a ported box. I now have a Elemental Design
Sub and am VERY happy with it. I have a ed10k. Costs less, needs a small
sealed box, and sounds great. Not sure if it is as loud db wise but
sounds/feels louder because it goes low and sounds real tight. It also need
less power than the power-hungry L7. You can almost get 2 e10k's for the
price of a L7. Mine runs in a box about .5 cu/ft. I havn't heard loads of
subs but I do know the ED's sound WAY better than the L7's. I hear the
Alpine Type-R's a good sub for the money too.

I'm sure some people will disagree but the Lightning Audio amps are a lot of
power for the money. I've heard a couple and the sounded fine. I have
Kicker amps and I think they are good amps for the cost.

Hope this helps, Brian.
