View Full Version : need amp recommendations to fit in a Miata

My g-f just got a Miata. Can anyone recommend a small footprint, two channel
amp I can search for locally and on Ebay? It will be used to drive a pair of
6.5 coaxes. So far I have thought of an old Alpine, and a PQ10. Anyone got
any other ideas? Also, I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with experience:
where's the best place in a Miata to put such an amp.

Check out the blaupunkt t-class amps. They're very small and very
efficient. I'm running 2 of the PA-275's. They give out about 90
watts/channel.

As to location in the miata, I have no idea. But you shouldn't have any
trouble finding a spot for an amp this small.

are you serious? in a convertible? Im not flaming you bro. i have
been out of the car audio scene for over a decade. Have built in head
unit amps evolved that much? If thats the case, I'll use the 45x4 amp
in my pioneer head unit and power some dash tweeters with it.

To the original post... If you dont mind used gear, check out Zed audio
made hifonics, Earthquake and rodek amps.

Add Linear power and Autotek Bass thrust amps to the used gear search.
Old alpine 35 series amps are great IMHO

Thats all..

uh, yeah, in a convertible. and yes, deck power has evolved significantly.
they're using better electronics and mosfets now, and power output is up
substantially.

a pair of 6.5's in the factory locations driven by good deck power should be
plenty...unless he's lookin for more, and then an amp is necessary.....

Substantially??? Even in something like an Alpine which has more power than
most you'd be luchy if you got 20 clean watts per channel before it started
to sound like ass. Yes HU's are better than they used to be, but for
someone in the industry you should know better.

It's a convertible. That fact alone almost makes an amp a necessity.
Without one forget listening to music on the free way with the top down.

There are plenty of small amps out there. It doesn't get much smaller than
an a/d/s or Linear Power amp. Also the entry-level Alpines are very small.
It just takes some research to find something that will work.

I was thinking about recommending those but the footprint might be a bit big
for a Miata. They are very short, but kind of long.
