What all could it mean when a sub clips?? I am running 2 JBL 600.1's and 2
Kicker CVR 12's. Only one of the subs clip when i turn it up and its only
on deep bass (Nelly ) The other sub just punds away. The amp i am running
the clippin sub on at one point 2 Visonik 12's on it and one of them the
Voice Coil fried and the other sub the wires connecting to the speaker
terminals came undone. Could this be the problem?? I would usually just
change the wire around on the amps to see if it did it with the other amp
but id prefer not to have to do this as i dont have n e room to work around
in there. My headunit is P-8500MP if thats important. N e help is greatly
apperciated.

Subs can't clip. Only sources and amplifiers can.

One amp to each sub?

The amp may be broken. Do the amps get different inputs (eg left to one and
right to the other)? If so, begin by swapping them and see what happens.

You may have to get your hands dirty if you want to pinpoint the problem.

Subs "clip" if the voicecoil's former hits bottom!
otherwise known as "bottoming" to soem.

That's the first time I've heard that referred to as "clipping". Hey, call
it whatever you're into.

Depends. If it's the amp clipping (and the other not clipping), then it
could be an issue with the gains. Or, less likely, it could be broken. If
it's the sub bottoming out (and the other not), then it could be an issue
with the gains. Or it could be broken. It's very difficult to tell whether
it's the amp clipping or the sub bottoming out simply by listening. Though
if you were able to swap the subs on the amps (hook sub A to amp B, and vise
versa), you'd know.

It could be the same problem I had with my Infinity Reference 10"s, it
sounded like bottoming out, but it really was that one of my subs didn't
have a good enough seal on the sealed box, so it was air passing, and it
would only do it on deep tones.

I really think you have the same problem I did, the sub just doesn't make a
good seal to the box.

I used weather-stripping (1/4") on a pair of 10s that didn't seem to sound
right when I put them in a sealed enclosure, no air leaks now. You can also
use silicone but most people don't recommend it (including me)
