Hi,

I am having a problem with my Kenwood Excellon KDC-917 HU. The receiver
went out about 2 months ago. I was coming home from work and noticed
that my receiver did not mask all the way. It only masked half way. I
pressed the reset button and it flipped all the way around where I could
put in my security code, but my display was out. I can only put in my
code with it down like I am loading a CD. Sometimes the display shows up
and sometimes it doesn't. When it does show up, it only lets me put in
one number then goes blank. Does anyone know how I can fix this or know
where I can order a new face plate from?

Hi,

It is actually a kdc-717. There is 2 numbers on the cable. One is
JB4-0121-12. The other is X14.X25. It seems pretty easy to fix, once I
get the cable. Please let me know of a website that I can order the
part off of.

Thanks,

Chris

I managed to get the flexible pcb cable out without breaking the black
mask piece. The cable broke as I was trying to get it out. I have also
ordered a cable online for about $20 (includes shipping). My next
question is about the thin double sided tape that was on the back of the
mask piece. What is the tape stuff called and where do I get some at?
That stuff is strong. They wanted to make sure you didn't get the
flexible pcb out. I think I can do this myself since I got this far
without breaking any major components. The hardest part was trying to
get the black mask piece off of the metal. I emailed an electronics
shop where I live and they quoted around $135-150, $50 to cover
check-out fee and the rest is parts & labor. I will let you know how it
goes and if I get it working again.
