I am new at this, but need some reccomendations on some replacement 4"
front speakers on my 1984 mercedes. I have checked a couple of mercedes
sites that explain the tweeter must not extend much at all. One person
used eclipse 8243 model with some success. Does anyone have any other
brand or model number that they know to be very thin or shallow?

Also for those that dont mind helping out a newbie. I am looking to
just put together some decent sounds. A friend is offering to give me a
clarion DRX-8175 cd player. I cant find much information about it.
Does anyone know if this is worth starting a system with? I don't care
about mp3 or cdrw playback, as I gather this is a somewhat older
model?

If the deck is worth starting with and I got some good 4"'ers for the
front. Would a 4 channel amp and some good rears offer me some decent
sounds?

Thanks for anyone willing to help me out.

Hey I have some 4" Kickers that should work great in your car. I can
send pics. With the deck and some front speakers on an amp, you should
be off to a good start. Let me know

Thanks for the reply. My car is a w123--not sure if it's the same or
not. I think the 126's have more dash space and thus might have larger
stock speakers in the front. The consensus seems to be that 4" is all
that will fit in the front. PO had installed a yamaha amp and yamaha
rear speakers along with a kenwood after-market casette deck. He also
bypassed the console fader switch, so much of the groundwork has been
layed in my case. Good luck with your install. Randy

Clarion makes great equipment IMO, a little bit flashy for an old Mercedes,
but clean sound and good build quality. I owned 2 DRX models, and miss them
very much as they were both stolen over the years.

That would be a great start (some would say you don't need to run the rears
off an amp, but do it for now and bridge the rear amp channels later to run
a sub).
It would be advantageous to get an amp that has a decent built-in crossover,
so it will be flexible and allow for future change to the system layout.
