View Full Version : Need help mounting a CD changer

I just bought myself a new cd changer and am in the process of
finishing my first self-installation on a car stereo system.

The components are working fine. However, I'm really confused as to
how the CD changer should be mounted in the car. The changer is going
in the trunk of my Nissan Sentra. Should I just attatch it to a piece
of plywood and set it in the trunk? Should I be bolting the unit into
the frame of the car? If so, I'm really worried about hitting
something important, like a gas line or other electrical wiring. Can
some of you gurus post about your own experiences (or if you have any
advice for me) in mounting the changer in the trunk?

TIA.

Ideally, you should be mounting the changer on a solid part of the car.
First remove any carpeting or lining and inspect the area you want to mount
it to; you should be able to tell if there are any hazards. If you're
mounting it on the floor of the trunk, look underneath. There's not likely
to be electrical wiring underneath the car body in that area, and fuel lines
will run between the gas tank and the engine, not behind the tank. Of
course, don't put a screw into the gas tank itself.

You can mount it to the top of the trunk enclosure, rather than the floor.
I've seen many changers mounted horizontally, attached to the bottom of the
parcel shelf. Again, once you remove any lining or covering down to the
bare metal, you should be able to spot electrical wiring...it's not hidden.

If you're really concerned about attaching it to the car body, then take
your piece of plywood and place it under the carpeting in the spot you want
to mount it. Then screw the changer to the plywood through the carpet.
This should hold the changer in place a little better.
