I am fairly familiar with most of the more pricey nearfield monitors like
Genelec 1031-32, Dynaudio BM15A....... but recently these monitors ADAMS 2.5
seem to pop up everywhere in the highend studios. Are they worth the extra
money which is like 3-400 Euros (pretty much the same in dollars). Of course
I know that I eventually have to decide myself but what I´m looking for is
just hints of their quality. I have asked around and so far everybody seems
to agree that if I can afford it I should buy these.

Go listen to them: I think that will answer your questions better than we can.

Personally, I like ADAMs very much, as do the people who use them here at CCRMA,
a normally hard-to-please group that tends not to agree on things like speakers.
We have S3As and P22s: I haven't heard the S2.5s yet. (We also have Genelec
1030As, JBL LSR-28Ps, Westlake BBSM-10s and Mackie HR824s, for comparison.)

The top end is very different. Personally, I like the top end on something
like the Stage Accompany speakers or the Genelec S30 speakers much more than
the Adams, since they are a bit smoother sounding, but I'll take the Adams
over just about anything with a dome tweeter. Your mileage may very. Go
listen to them. They should be easy to find up there.

I've been auditioning monitors for my new room recently. The Adam 2.5
sounds *mildly* too bright and a little sibilant at times to my ears.
The S3A, however, is truly superb. I'm hoping my budget will stretch to
a pair of the larger units.

Both auditioned with all controls set flat BTW. Adjusting the controls
on the 2.5's gave an entirely acceptable sound - if not quite up to the
larger S3A.

Another issue here is that my room isn?t that big so anything larger than
the 2.5?s would be overkill. As a matter of fact I?m a bit worried that even
the 2.5?s are too big for what I need. On the other hand I do need low end
and deep midrange to be pretty exact so all the 6.5 inches stuff probably
won?t cut it.

Although pricey, I liked the 3 series for small to medium rooms out of the
whole line.

That ribbony thing for a tweeter is very sweet.

I would love to hear the the S5A's
I had the S3A's in my room and
thought they were great especially
in uncovering low mid cloudiness that my LSR 28's forgive, but I can only
imagine how the S5's would fill the room.
