I've been doing a spot of research on DVD burners to use as backup
media for my DAW.

I haven't made a decision as yet, but the reivew for the Lite-On
LDW-411S has a section testing C1 and C2 errors on CD-R's, using a
freeware utility written by a Lite-on employee. apparently it only
works on Lite-On drives though.

I'm no expert on CD technology, but I really like the idea of being
able to quality check CD masters when they leave here to go for
mastering or pressing.

Here's a link to the CD-R page of the review:

The utility is called k-probe

Take a look at the Plextor Europe web site (http://www.plextor.be) for a
brand new alternative (it is so new that the US web site doesn't have
any information yet).

I believe that K-Probe may also work with other drives that use the same
chip sets.

Cheers.

James.
