View Full Version : computer interface problems

I bought the Tascam US224 USB interface last spring, and immediately
something wasn't right. If you on't know about it, the US 224 has two
main functions: 1) it serves as a connection from an
instrument/mixer/tape player, etc. to the computer and 2) it works as a
control board, with faders and buttons that control such funtions in
the program Cubasis VST (which comes with it) as moving the faders in
the software's mixer, muting and soloing, and the whole family of
rewind-forward-stop-play-record buttons, which you would other wise
have to push on the screen. The problem with my unit is that the
control-board-half doesnt work. The only thing that works is when the
setup window for the input monitor is up. Then the first 2 faders
cotrol the 2 on the screen and the mutes/pans work. But it does not
control the vst mixer, it doesnt do the mutes and solos, I cant assign
the shuttle wheel to do anything and the play/stop/rewind etc. dont do
anything. Now I have tried this unit on 2 macs, one with OSX and one
with OS9. I'm using the one with OS9 right now. I have downloaded
every driver i could find on the tascam/steinberg (cubasis'
manufaturer) sites. Oh and by the way it doesnt work in 224 native OR
428 emulation. Is there some driver I'm missing? Or is there a setting
in cubasis I need to change to get it to work? Or is do you think it's
just broken? Thanks for anyone's help, I really like this thing and
I'd hate to never find out whats wrong with it.

Could it be a problem with Cubasis VST, the program im running? Anyone
who knows the program at all please respond

You've been living with this for a year and you haven't called
TASCAM's Tech Support for help? I'd suggest that. It's their product,
and they should be able to get it working for you.

First, I'd try a re-installation of the TASCAM drivers. Play dumb and
let it do whatever it wants. Reboot after installing with the US224
connected, and continue to play dumb and let it do what it wants. It's
possible that it missed installing a MIDI driver.

Hahaha believe me ive tried calling them. Twice I reached a guy who
told me basically what u told me: to reinstall everything. Ive
re-installed sooooo many times i prolly broke something else. I just
think the problem is that im missing some driver, or theres something
on cubasis that isnt activeated......not a mechanical problem, just
logistics.--Matt

Hey, you do realize this thing uses midi to work with an audio application,
don't you? And that midi for one application might have different meanings
for another application? Have you loaded any type of midi profile into your
audio application to take advantage of the 224? Just because Cubasis VST
comes with the unit doesn't mean that it will automatically talk to the
device.

Hey, at least it works, right? Back in the days of sometimes helpdesk work
I'd ask, is the computer plugged into the wall, and every once in a while
the answer was no. It happens.

Glad you got it working.
