View Full Version : What did I do wrong?

Hi,

I tried hooking my iMac's speaker output into my stereo, so I could, of
course, hear what was being played on my computer out of my stereo
speakers.

I hooked up a 3.5mm to 2 RCA stereo cord into the 3.5mm output of the
mac and then into the AUX input on my stereo, and I got nothing, nothing
at all.

The computers output is working because it was hooked up to two little
computer speakers seconds before I plugged in my cord. The AUX input on
my stereo is working because I tested it with my tape player after the
computer wouldn't work through it.

Does the iMac's output work in the way I think it does? Or am I missing
something?

Thanks

Steve

I have exactly this arrangement, and it works fine. Try another lead?

Does it work when you plug headphones into that jack? You might also
want to make sure that when you're plugged into the stereo you have the
iMac's volume all the way up. And whatever program you're using
(iTunes, I guess) up all the way, too.

If that doesn't work, then as David says, you should try another cable
or adapter. Do you know for sure that AUX works on your amp?

I bought a new cable last night and it works beautifully now. Darn
cables anyway.
