Anyone have any direct experience with BASWAphon Acoustic System? It's
that sound absorbing tile marketed in the States by RPG, that yields a
smooth continuous plaster-like finish..."looks hard, sounds soft" blah
blah blah.
I'm especially curious about (and admittedly skeptical of) this claim:
"Also due to the mass and compliance of this membrane it offers
diaphragmatic absorption as it vibrates sympathetically with the
incident sound waves against the spring action of the mineral wool
backing. This diaphragmatic absorption extends the porous absorption due
to frictional losses to lower frequency."
The supplied absorption coefficient graphs show a dramatic rolloff below
250 Hz, which sort of suggests to me that it's no better
(performance-wise) than the garden variety mineral wool tile that it's
based upon. IOW, is the above quote a load of marketing hooey, or do the
proprietary topcoats really allow the system to absorb low frequencies
like a panel trap?
Thanks,
